ZOOM
                                                                                                                 Zoom Service

As we continue with the social distancing and stay-at-home guidelines, many have had questions as to how to get on to the live streamed service and a few technical glitches that we hope to remedy.  It is our intention to use Zoom every other week (4/26, 5/10, & 5/24) and podcast  every week for those who can not not attend Zoom Services or to worship weekly.  We tried this for the first time on Easter (4/12) and are still learning how to best utilize this new method of presenting God’s Word.  So please take a few minutes to read through this “cheat sheet” before joining us for service.

Step 1: Logging on
There are a few options for this.  From easiest to most complex would be:
Go to the church website: www.redemernewton.org and click on  Zoom Worship Service.
Click on the invitation link in the email announcing service

Brian Handrich is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Topic: The Living Stone and a Chosen People
Time: May 10, 2020 09:30 AM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

Join Zoom Meeting
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89868640699

Meeting ID: 898 6864 0699

Go to Zoom.com and select “find a meeting” and search for Brian Handrich

Step 2: Zoom fellowship time
While our service begins at 10:00 AM, you can log on anytime after 9:30.  I’ll do my best to have the web meeting up and running by that time.  From 9:30-9:55 we’ll have a virtual coffee hour.  So grab your beverage of choice, find a comfy seat, and say hello to your Redeemer family.  Please not that your camera must be on as does your microphone to be seen and heard.  There are mute / camera buttons on the bottom left corner of the Zoom screen.  Only one person can be on the main (large) screen at a time and other participants will be found in smaller boxes along the top of the screen.  Usually, whoever is talking loudest gets the screen!  We’re still trying to figure this part out.
At 9:55 we’ll begin the countdown for worship.  This is the time to grab your order of service, refill your coffee (or whatever), do your pre-worship bathroom break, etc.  IF I can figure out how to do it, we’ll run a video during the countdown or scroll announcements or somehow give you more than just a clock. During the countdown please turn your microphones off for service.  You can also turn your camera off if you wish.  Turning off your mic and camera will not stop you from seeing and hearing what is happening in the service, it simply stops the screen from switching over to your living room (or wherever) as we go through service.

Step 3: The Service
In the invitation email there should be an attachment which has the order of service, readings, prayers, and hymns for the day.  This is a document in .doc for those of you using Windows Office (or clone thereof) and .pdf for those familiar with Adobe’s format.  For those using Apple devices, I have no idea as I’ve never worked on Apple machines so I don’t know which format(s) Apple supports.  You can print this out during “coffee hour” and use it as a guide for our worship
Along the bottom of the Zoom screen, you’ll see a button for chat.  This is what we will use for prayer requests and announcements.  I’ll have a volunteer watching the laptop (so be surprised if you catch 1/2 of someone’s face from time to time) and checking the chat room throughout the service.  He or she will then run the prayer requests to the altar at the appropriate time.
Step 4: Wrapping up
As per our in person services, we’ll end with the common doxology.  Please forgive me if I break into the bass harmonization - old habits die hard.  After the doxology, feel free to unmute your microphone and turn your camera back on - if you wish.  We’ll have some “free time” until our web meeting schedule is filled (11 AM).  At that time, I, as host, will shut down and our service will conclude for the day.

Step 5: (optional): Post Service
On Easter, I noticed there is a “record” button on my host screen.  I have no idea where this records to (probably a cloud), what format it is in, nor how to retrieve and share it.  If I figure all that out by Sunday, I’ll make the web service available for viewing at your leisure.
Harold will simultaneously be recording the service for our weekly podcast, so you can catch the audio later by whatever means you use to download / play the podcasts.  He is also using his GoPro camera to record the service as it has a higher resolution rate than our other camera.  This too will be made available once it is uploaded.

Other:
Please see the email on “electronic giving options” to continue your financial support of Redeemer’s many ministries.  Just because group gatherings are verboten for the time being, that doesn’t mean our work as God’s people has stopped nor have our expenses for doing this work.  This separate email will walk you through how to give online either as a one time gift or how to set up recurring (weekly, monthly, etc.) offerings to your Church home.
We also have a monthly subscription to Zoom (budget line item to be added later) which gives us unlimited meeting duration (the free option limits us to 40 minutes) and an unlimited number of meetings per month.  If you wish, we can resume Bible studies, prayer meetings, or other times we would normally get together in person through this format.  Just shoot me an email if you’d be interested in pursuing this until the stay at home order is lifted. Until then, thank you for your patience as we figure out this new way of doing worship services.
